Sijo Blom & his interior

Who Sijo Blom

I am 28 years, freelance web designer and entrepreneur and live with my dear girlfriend Margriet in Bos en Lommer, Amsterdam.

How does a normal working day look like?
I work from home. First of all checking my 2Do lists while having a cup of coffee. Then work on the current design assignments and updating my website in vintage home accessories mixedgoods.nl .

And your day off?
Usually something social, visiting friends and a drink for example. If the weather permits, enjoy our roof garden, and look for new things and ideas for my web store. Once in 2 weeks, I love to go to the forest for mountain biking.

When did you come to live here?
May 2010, we moved in one year ago. Bos en Lommer is not known as the best neighbourhood of the Netherlands, but we live good and you can notice that it’s a neighbourhood in development. Lots of new restaurants, more private housing and cultural projects. We’ve finished the difficult part of the renovation of our home in one week: painting, floor sanding and putting in the oil. The rest of the year we’ve been busy working on the details (see pictures for results).

How would you describe the interior of your home

Eclectic fantastic! Haha … because of mix of the many different styles. Yet it has become a very relaxed house. The main colors we kept quiet, white, blue and wood. The rest of the color is created by all that we have collected over time. The house reflects well our two styles and it gives lots of rest, like a real home.

Your favorite city?
London is really a fantastic city. In the Netherlands, I choose Amsterdam. Architecture, culture, food and everything is still within biking distance. Truly a cosmopolitan village. The best thing to do in Amsterdam is riding on my bike on a summerday at 7.00 pm passing the beautiful canals. When the sun rises, the canals are slippery and the city slowly awakens.

Where do you get inspiration for your home

From a lot of things: traveling, movies, music, art. In addition, I follow a lot of design blogs online, it’s incredibly inspiring to see how creative people can be. It’s so great nowadays, internet and democratization of the means of production open creativity and possibility for everyone to make art, movies and photo’s.

Your tip for the reader
Make your home personal. Bring original items from a beautiful journey you have made. Or make a nice picture of your friends and family. Nothing is worse than a house with nothing personal in it. Mix old with new. Vintage or used items will show much more character to your home. Do not put down accessories on random places, it can be messy. So organize your stuff in a fun, creative way. This creates peace and makes your home much more exciting to watch, and to live in! Keep experimenting, sometimes it takes a while before you are satisfied with a particular part of your home, your house is never finished.
