Carissa Erickson & her interior design
Who is Carissa Erickson?
I’m trained as an Engineer, but would love to someday have a career in interior design, and am currently a full-time Mom to two busy boys. When I’m not running after my kids, I’m usually working on some kind of decorating project in my own home.
What means interior design to you?
To me, interior design is all about making your space reflect your personality. I like it when spaces don’t look obviously ‘decorated,’ but they do tell the story of the person who lives there.
How would you desribe your interior design?
My style is fairly traditional, but I like to keep it fresh and fun. I change things often in my home. I’m in the process of painting my walls white, but I gravitate towards bold pattern, a few pops of color, and a touch of metallic gold. I also enjoy making things, so you will notice some of my own diy-projects around my house (like my painted chevron rug and my globe chandelier). I have also started to collect a few vintage pieces that add a bit of character.
Where do you get inspiration for your home?
I read a TON of design blogs. I have also subscribed to Canadian House & Home magazine, as well as Style at Home magazine for years, and look forward to their arrival in my mailbox every month!
What is your favourite city?
It sounds cheesy, but I think my favorite city is Saskatoon (where I live)! It’s a beautiful city in the summer (although the winters are cold and snowy) and it’s a perfect place to raise a family. If I was to pick somewhere international, it would probably be Florence. My husband and I holidayed there before we were married, and it was breathtaking. We loved it.
Your tip for the readers?
You don’t have to have a big budget to have a fabulous space. A smaller budget just makes you be more creative! Some of my favorite pieces are things I have made myself.
